Class Descriptions

For 2.5-4.5 Year Olds:

Creative Movement: This is a shorter class (only 30 minutes) which focuses on using motor and rhythmic skills to improve coordination, strength and flexibility while engaging creativity and early socialization. This class does not perform in the recital.

 

3-4 Tap/Ballet: This 1 hour class is half tap and half ballet to introduce our youngest dancers to both styles of dance. Ballet and tap exercises are taught to introduce important dance basics such as stretching, concentration, rhythm, coordination and discipline. This class will perform twice in the recital – one ballet routine and one tap routine.

 

3-4 Tiny Tumble: This class will include a group warm up and stretching and teach dancers basic body positions and strength needed to master fundamental acro/gymnastics skills and equipment while teaching students to take turns, share and socialize with other children. This class does not perform in the recital.

 

For 5-6 Year Olds:

5-6 Tap/Ballet: This 1 hour class is half tap and half ballet to introduce our youngest dancers to both styles of dance. Ballet and tap exercises are taught to introduce important dance basics such as stretching, concentration, rhythm, coordination and discipline. This class will perform twice in the recital – one ballet routine and one tap routine.

 

5-6 Jazz/Hip Hop: This 1 hour class is half jazz and half hip hop to introduce dancers to both styles of dance. This class will feature an introduction to jazz technique and hip hop technique and introduces basic movements set to upbeat music to encourage rhythm and coordination including both center floor and across the floor combinations, as well as basic jazz technique progressions. This class will have 1 performance in the recital with a mix of both styles of dance.

 

5-6 Tiny Tumble: This class will include a group warm up and stretching and teach dancers basic body positions and strength needed to master fundamental acro/gymnastics skills and equipment while teaching students to take turns, share and socialize with other children. This class does not perform in the recital.

 

For 7-10 Year Olds:

7-10 Ballet: Beginning level ballet curriculum focusing on ballet barre, center floor and across the floor progressions. This class is focused on introducing ballet alignment and basic classical ballet body positions. This class performs in the recital.

 

7-10 Tap: Beginning level tap fundamentals. This class will teach musicality and rhythm skills through tap technique and combinations. This class performs in the recital.

 

7-10 Jazz: Beginning level jazz fundamentals. This class focuses on flexibility/stretching and introductory level jazz technique. This class performs in the recital.

 

Beginning Lyrical (7+): This class teaches a combination of skills and terminology used in beginner ballet and jazz classes. Grace and fluidity of movement are prioritized, in addition to proper body alignment, center of balance, and beginning turns, jumps, and floor work. This class performs in the recital.

 

Beginning Hip Hop (7+): This is a beginning level hip-hop class that emphasizes rhythm, isolations, and self-expression. Dance combinations include unique footwork and arm movements. This class will perform in the recital.

 

Beginning Acro (7+): This is a beginning level acrobatics class that teaches proper warm-up and stretching, as well as introduces acrobatics body positions and basic skills such as forward and backward rolls, handstands, cartwheels and front limbers.

 

For Dancers 10+:

Intermediate Stretch & Conditioning: This class is focused on gaining flexibility and conditioning for stamina to supplement an intermediate dancers’ training.

 

Intermediate Jazz: This class focuses on expanding into higher level choreography and jazz technique progressions, such as multiple pirouettes, advanced level leaps/jumps and flexibility/extension skills. This class performs in the recital.

 

Intermediate Ballet: This class focuses on more advanced ballet curriculum and performance qualities for the recreational dancer. This class performs in the recital.

 

Intermediate Tap: This class focuses on more advanced tap curriculum, including intermediate/advanced tap steps, more intricate rhythms, and higher level choreography. This class performs in the recital.

 

Intermediate Lyrical: In this level, dancers work to connect their steps together in fluid combinations and traveling exercises.  Attention is placed on increased control and balance necessary to learn intermediate turns, jumps, and extensions. Ballet and/or jazz experience is preferred. This class performs in the recital.

 

Intermediate Musical Theatre: Using music from popular Broadway and film musicals, emphasis will be placed on facial-expression, performance, and nuances in musicality and movement that enhance theatrical dance.  This is an appropriate class for students who are interested in performing in school or community theater. This class will perform in the recital.

 

Intermediate Acrobatics: This is an intermediate level acrobatics class focused on balancing skills such as chest stands/elbow stands, as well as introducing tumbling skills such as front/back walkovers and side aerials.

 

For Advanced Dancers:

Our company technique classes are available to dancers who are not in our competitive company! Please contact the studio if you are interested in learning more about placement for our Syllabus Ballet 1-4, Ballet Variations 1-2, Pre-Pointe, Pointe, Jazz Technique 1-4, Improv/Combo or Company Conditioning Classes.

 

For Adults:

Adult Tap: No experience needed! This class will introduce basic tap steps and rhythms in a fun environment. This class has the option to perform in the recital, but performance is not required.

 

Adult Ballet/Barre Fitness: This class will introduce classical ballet basics such as placement, body positions and barre/center floor exercises but will also be focused on increasing the heart rate and improving overall physical fitness.

 

Adult Hip Hop Fitness: No experience needed! This class will focus on hip hop basics and fun combinations that feature trendy music and movements for a fun, upbeat class. This class will focus on increasing the heart rate for fitness benefits.

 

Introduction to Ballroom: This class will rotate ballroom styles every 6-8 weeks to introduce a wide variety of ballroom dance technique. This class is open to anyone – no experience is needed!
